(TeaParty.org) – Scott Walker, governor of Wisconsin, has announced a plan to further scrutinize people who are on food stamps that has welfare moochers waking up and Democrats unleashing an uproar.
Over the past several years, huge food stamp fraud rings have been busted. They buy the food stamp benefits from recipients for 50 cents on the dollar. That money often goes for drugs.
But according to The Mail Online, Gov. Walker has a solution: he wants able-bodied recipients with no kids to be drug-tested in order for them to remain eligible for benefits. Why all recipients aren’t being tested remains a mystery, since it seems like the state would like to know if children are going hungry because their parents are using the food stamps to buy drugs. That should be the priority.
Walker first proposed the measure in 2015, but at the time the Obama administration was battling it out with Florida that was drug testing recipients. Under Walker, the state sued to be able to implement their plan, but were told they would have to wait until the Florida case was adjudicated before their lawsuit could go forward. Walker has applied to the Trump administration for a ruling, but none was forthcoming and the administration has refused to comment, so Walker has decided to go ahead with the plan to force the courts to take up its case.
From The Mail Online:
Walker’s rule would mean mandatory testing for those food stamp applicants who are childless and able-bodied.
If they fail, they are eligible for state-funded rehabilitation treatment, if they can’t afford it themselves.
Florida had attempted to create a drug test requirement for those applying for food stamps, but it hit a roadblock in 2014 in the federal appeals court.
Federal laws prohibit states from placing any more requirements on food stamp provision, and the move was declared a violation of constitutional protections against unreasonable searches.
Walker believes that just 220 people will fail the test, although it may be more. If someone fails the test, the state will pay for drug rehab if the person can’t afford it themselves. Going out on a limb, it’s probable that if you are on food stamps, you can’t afford drug rehab.
The federal government in 1986 decided that any contractor with the government had to run a drug free environment in order to keep getting contracts. That included random drug testing. Doesn’t it seem fair that if the workers whose taxes pay for the welfare drug testing must undergo drug testing to keep their jobs, welfare recipients should, too?
Finally, According to Dr. Pollack of the Substance Abuse Policy Research Program, psychiatric disorders (most notably depression and PTSD) are more prevalent amongst welfare recipients than drug use, though he also reports that 20% of welfare recipients admit to recent use of illicit drugs. Mandatory testing for welfare recipients, not just drug testing but also psychiatric and medical testing, could allow for those in need to receive proper medical care in order to help them with any medical conditions that they are dealing with and allow them to reenter the workforce more quickly upon recovery. Mandatory testing would not only hold welfare recipients to the same standard as everybody else, but it also would perform a critical service as a means of assistance for those suffering from psychiatric disorders, medical disorders, and/or abuse problems.
The biggest and best reason for drug testing welfare recipient are the kids. If a parent is using the welfare benefits to buy drugs, the kids, the best reason for having welfare in the first place, may not be getting enough food or just day to day care. If that is happening, the best thing to do is to get the kids out of the home and placed in foster care, where the states and county can monitor to make sure the children are well cared for.
Of course, we all know the Democrats don’t really care about children. Not when they’re aborting them and creating astronomical national debt for them to inherit.
