(Breitbart) – On Saturday’s broadcast of MSNBC’s “Up w/Steve Kornaki,” former Republican National Committee chairman Michael Steele said there was push for outgoing-Majority Leader Rep. Eric Cantor (R-VA) to head the Republican National Committee after he leaves office in January.

Steele pointed to the build-up of the 2016 presidential election cycle as a reason for the push behind Cantor.

“The ‘what’s next’ is always the big play in Washington – what do you do next,” Steele said. “And with the upcoming presidential election, there’s a lot of interest in Eric Cantor serving as national chairman of the RNC – Republican National Committee.”

“So, that will be interesting to see how that plays out,” he continued. “You know, that cycle is going to be so important across the board and Cantor’s network and his ability to lead — in fact, I think he’d be interesting because he started dialogues on poverty and some other issues that were sort of outside of what Republicans traditionally have talked about. So, he could bring a very interesting voice into that space.”
