(Christian News Alerts) – Skeletons are pouring out of the Democrats’ closet. And some of them have damning stories to tell.
Failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton remained silent for five days before denouncing Hollywood mogul and Democrat mega-donor Harvey Weinstein. The former Secretary of State said she was “shocked and appalled” by the allegations against Weinstein, but she did not say she would return any donations contributed by the Hollywood executive, reports The Washington Times.
Last Thursday, The New York Times published a groundbreaking investigative report accusing Miramax co-founder Harvey Weinstein of committing multiple acts of sexual misconduct over his 30 years working in Hollywood. According to the report, Weinstein has paid out at least eight settlements to women who have accused him of sexual misconduct.
Weinstein left Miramax in 2004 to found The Weinstein Company with his brother Bob. However, since the details of Weinstein’s sexual misconduct have emerged, Weinstein has been fired from his own company.
Reaching out to The Times, Weinstein admitted his guilt and apologized. “I appreciate the way I’ve behaved with colleagues in the past has caused a lot of pain, and I sincerely apologize for it. Though I’m trying to do better, I know I have a long way to go,” he said.
Weinstein was not just a Hollywood mogul. He was a major donor to the Democrat Party. Business Insider reports that between the years 2000 and the 2016 presidential election, Harvey Weinstein contributed $894,373 dollars to federal Democrat campaigns and political action committees. Weinstein also acted as a “bundler” for the Democrats, raising an additional $1,422,683.
The Center for Responsive Politics defines a bundler as, “people with friends in high places who, after bumping against personal contribution limits, turn to those friends, associates, and, well, anyone who’s willing to give, and deliver the checks to the candidate.”
Republican National Committee Chairwomen Ronna Romney McDaniel has called on Democrats to return the money contributed by the serial sexual abuser. “Harvey Weinstein is a major bundler for the DNC,” she said. “[Democrats] have embraced him. He has admitted to these instances where he put these women in completely inappropriate situations. And we’re just saying to the Democrat Party, ‘Give his money back. If you really stand for what you say you do, give his money back.’”
In the wake of the allegations, at least 10 Democrat senators have disengaged themselves from the money offered by Weinstein, contributing his donations to women-related charities. The list of people forfeiting Weinstein’s contributions includes Sen. Chuck Schummer (D-NY), Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA), Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), and Al Franken (D-MN).
Hillary “shocked and appalled” about Weinstein. But will she return the cash?
Weinstein contributed at least $38,000 to Hillary Clinton in support of her 2016 presidential bid alone, in addition to over $300,000 donated to the Democrat National Committee.
Hillary Clinton responded to the allegations, releasing a statement saying, “I was shocked and appalled by the revelations about Harvey Weinstein. The behavior described by women coming forward cannot be tolerated. Their courage and the support of others is critical in helping to stop this kind of behavior.”
The curious thing, though, is what was missing in Clinton’s statement. She did not explain how she plans to support these women, nor did she mention donating any of the money given to her by Weinstein to a worthy cause.
