Anti-Gun Group Founded By Rep. Gabby Giffords Files Lawsuit Against Trump Admin

(Conservative Tribune) – An anti-gun group founded by former Rep. Gabby Giffords has filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration demanding access to documents it alleges show collusion between the the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and gun lobbyist groups.

“The policy choices made by the Trump Administration, as well as its public response to prominent instances of gun violence, mirrors closely, if not exactly, the views and communications strategies preferred and employed by the Washington gun lobby,” claims the suit, which may be viewed in its entirety here.

“It appears that the administration is coordinating with, or taking direction from, the Washington gun lobby in responding to mass shootings,” the suit adds.

According to the Giffords Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence, which filed the suit Thursday in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, the suit was filed after the ATF “failed to respond to multiple Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests seeking to reveal the gun lobby’s role in directing the Trump Administration’s legislative agenda.”

The Washington Examiner notes that the anti-gun group is specifically seeking records regarding the Trump administration’s policies on concealed carry reciprocity, bump stocks, assault weapon experts and firearm suppressors.

The group’s only evidence of possible collusion reportedly includes an ATF “white paper” leaked earlier this year in which agency official Ronald B. Turk proposed loosening certain gun regulations.

Apparently, the law center is bothered that the administration of President Donald Trump, who made it clear during his campaign last year that he intended to fight for the Second Amendment, shares the same goals as gun lobbyists.

I’d call that a non-surprising coincidence, but leftists call it collusion. Go figure.

“The Trump administration appears willing to let the National Rifle Association dictate its federal gun safety policy, which includes remaining silent on how to stem our nation’s gun violence epidemic,” said the center’s executive director, Robyn Thomas, in a statement.

“Protecting the safety of Americans should be the top priority of any president,” he continued. “Unfortunately, gun lobby profits seem to be more important to President Trump.”

The center also claimed that “following the Las Vegas and Sutherland Springs tragedies, the White House parroted NRA talking points and refused to address calls for gun safety reforms.”

Actually, following the Las Vegas shooting in early October and Sutherland Springs shooting in early November, respectively, nearly every single conservative commentator noted that not a single piece of gun legislation would have stopped these tragedies from occurring.

“The legislation most gun-control advocates call for would not have stopped Stephen Paddock,” Rich Lowry wrote for National Review, referencing the Las Vegas shooter.

“(N)o amount of background checking would have stopped the shooter in Sutherland Springs, Texas from purchasing his firearms, because the federal government failed to do it’s job properly,” Stephen L. Miller likewise wrote for Fox News, referencing the military’s failure to place the shooter in a national database following a court martial conviction for domestic violence.

I guess the Trump administration must be colluding with National Review and Fox News as well.
